Biography

Sherif Badran received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, in 2021, and the M.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA, in 2023. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering at Northeastern University under the supervision of Prof. Josep Miquel Jornet, where he also serves as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests include terahertz communications, wireless communications, signal processing, and coding theory.

Research

Research Interests

Ultra-broadband, ultra-high-data-rate terahertz communications; signal processing; channel coding; experimental THz testbeds; hardware-impaired wireless systems.

Research Experience

  • Develop and experimentally validate signal processing, modulation, channel coding, and synchronization techniques that enable robust and ultra-reliable wireless communication above 100 GHz under severe channel and hardware impairments
  • Design and execute custom THz channel sounding and measurement campaigns, generating various experimental datasets for channel modeling and equalization
  • Lead experimental characterization and optimization of state-of-the-art THz components for long-range and space communications, including frequency multiplier chains, mixers, amplifiers, antennas, metasurfaces, and reflectarrays
  • Integrate high-frequency measurement-driven and theoretical models into signal processing algorithms, bridging theory, hardware, and experimental validation
