Description

The objective of this research is to develop the first network architecture and protocol stack to sup-port ultra-broadband airborne networks in the Terahertz (THz) band (0.1–10 THz), by followinga bottom-up approach and through a closed-loop combination of mathematical modeling, numeri-cal simulation and experimental evaluation. The targeted breakthrough is to demonstrate physicallayer data rates in the order of 1 Terabit-per-second (Tbps), link-layer effective throughputs of100 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) and network layer goodputs in excess of 10 Gbps. These targetperformance metrics are 100 times higher than those of mm-wave networks, which are currentlythe reference benchmark.
